Jammu, Jul 17 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Congress president Tariq Hamid Karra on Friday said the party will join the National Conference's (NC) statehood protest in New Delhi on July 20, while asserting that the movement was originally launched by his party.
Addressing a press conference in Jammu, Congress chief JK Tariq Hamid Karra as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) said the NC has invited the Congress leadership, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, to participate in the demonstration.
"Statehood represents the aspirations, emotions and sentiments of 1.4 crore people of Jammu and Kashmir. Any individual, NGO or political party that wants to join this movement is welcome," Tariq Karra said.
He said they first took the movement to all 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir to build public awareness, followed by demonstrations in all districts, including Jammu and Srinagar.
"Subsequently, we also organised hunger strikes across all 20 districts in both the Kashmir and Jammu divisions as part of our campaign for the restoration of statehood," he added.
Notably, The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) is staging a protest on July 20, 2026, at Delhi's Jantar Mantar to demand the restoration of statehood to J&K. Led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the party plans to proceed to the capital on July 19 regardless of pending police permission. (KNS)
