Places many demands before the Commission

Srinagar March 12 (KNS):  A high-level Congress delegation today called on the Election Commission of India at SKICC Srinagar and apprised the Commission about various issues confronting J&K, especially the prolonged delay in holding Assembly Elections.
 
The delegation also briefed the Commission about other pressing demands including appropriate security to opposition, issuance of updated electoral rolls to Parties before the elections.
 
Congress delegation led by Former JKPCC President Peerzada Mohd Sayeed comprising Senior JKPCC Vice Presidents Gulam Nabi Monga (Ex.MLC), Mohd Anwar Bhat and PCC General Secretary Irfan Naqashbandi during the meeting with ECI urged upon the Commission that apart from forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, simultaneous Assembly elections should be conducted in J&K to ensure that people elect their representatives and enjoy the fruits of democracy like people in others States and UTs in the country enjoy.
 
The delegation told the Commission that level playing field to all parties including opposition especially in the matter of security to prominent leaders and functionaries be ensured.  The delegation also told the Commission that people of J&K were deprived of democracy for over five years even after claiming normalcy by the Centre Govt.
 
The delegation laid strong emphasis over holding of Assembly Elections without any further delay and  sought restoration of Statehood with the Centre Govt before polls.(KNS)
