Baramulla, Jun 27 (KNS): A drug de-addiction awareness programme was organised at Higher Secondary School Delina in Baramulla on Saturday, where experts urged students to stay away from substance abuse and stressed the need for collective efforts to tackle the growing menace.

The programme was organised by Civil Defence Baramulla with the support of Dragger Division Baramulla to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Students of classes 11 and 12 participated in the event.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Warden of Civil Defence Baramulla, Dr Anayat Mir, said drug addiction should be viewed not only as a public health concern but also as a socio-strategic challenge, particularly in border regions.

He said the spread of narcotics in vulnerable areas could be exploited as part of hybrid warfare to weaken youth, social cohesion and national resilience.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHe called for coordinated efforts to protect young people, disrupt drug networks and strengthen community resilience.

Dr Javid, an MD at Sub-District Hospital Sopore, senior psychologist Ruheela, and Civil Defence Sector Warden Ayoub spoke about local and national drug abuse trends, the physical and psychological effects of addiction, risk factors and preventive measures.

The speakers encouraged students to make informed choices, build resilience against substance abuse and contribute to awareness within their communities.

The programme concluded with an interactive session in which students engaged with the experts and discussed ways to prevent drug abuse through awareness, early intervention and community participation.(KNS)
