Srinagar, Mar 16 (KNS): In a significant development, authorities in Srinagar district are going to give route numbering to mini-buses plying in different areas in the district to end haphazard commutation and inconvenience to passengers. In this regard three routes have been identified and taken up under pilot basis project which have yielded successful results.


“The mini buses plying on different routes of Srinagar district were commuting in an organized and haphazard manner earlier which was leading unnecessary inconvenience to commuters. Keeping the hardships faced by commuters into account, three routes were identified on pilot basis project which gave good results,” Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Shahnawaz Bukhari informed KNS.

He said from last four days the services have been started on pilot basis project that added trips and passengers manifold, prompting authorities to rope in more areas in coming days.

The routes where services were started include Parimpora to Harwan, Budgam to Hazratbal and Pantha Chowk to Soura. “All buses run via TRC and adjoining areas.” RTO said.

He said after good results achieved from pilot basis project, it has been decided that all areas will be covered under the project in coming days. He also said the mini buses will be allotted numbers onwards like in Delhi and other parts of the country.

“Each and every route of the district will be provided such service in coming 10 days,” RTO added.

In this regard a high level meeting was held chaired by Additional Transport Commissioner in which representatives of all mini bus associations too part. “The matter was discussed thoroughly and cooperation was sought from all stakeholders present in the meeting. It was decided that in coming 7 to 10 days all routes of the district will be roped into,” RTO said. (KNS)
