Body of missing girl retrieved from river in Kupwara after four days

Kupwara, Jul 11 (KNS): The body of a minor girl who drowned in river Pohru in Jaggerpora village area of north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Saturday was traced today afternoon.

Sources said that after days of relentless search operation, the body of missing girl Ronak Jan(12), daughter of Abdul Jabbar Payer resident of Sulkoot Kupwara was found at Awatkul, nearly 4 Kilometres from the incident site.

"Soon after the incident, a search operation was launched by Police, SDRF, NDRF, Army and MARCOS with active assistance by locals to trace the girl, however no clue was found until this afternoon," they said, adding that her body was retrieved.

Ronak was among three minors who drowned in river Pohru after the trio tried to retrieve slippers of one of a girl from the water body.

Two of the drowned minors identified as Zehran Javid (11) son of Javid Ahmad Dar resident of Jagerpora and Sadiya Fayaz (9) daughter of Fayaz Ahmad Mir resident of Mughalpora Nagri were rescued safely with timely intervention of locals at the first day.(KNS)
