SRINAGAR, July 2(KNS): BJP leader Altaf Thakur on Thursday questioned the pace of road development in Kashmir, asking whether Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was waiting for the restoration of statehood before undertaking macadamisation of roads.
In a statement, Thakur said June had passed and July had begun, but roads across Kashmir continued to be riddled with potholes instead of witnessing blacktopping work.
"The Omar Abdullah government seems busy with speeches and symbolism while development works remain stuck on paper. Is Omar waiting for restoration of statehood to macadamise the roads?" he said.
The BJP leader said only about two workable months remained before weather conditions again become unfavourable for large-scale road construction and maintenance works.

He questioned the status of the government's promised mechanisation and road upgradation programme, saying residents deserved better infrastructure rather than "excuses".
"People deserve roads, not excuses. People want to know why there is a delay," Thakur said.
He urged the government to expedite macadamisation and repair works across the Valley to ensure better road connectivity before the end of the working season.(KNS).
