Jammu, August 3 (KNS): The National Conference on Monday launched a scathing attack on the BJP, accusing it of betraying the people of Jammu by failing to deliver on a host of promises made during its decade-long rule and influence in the Union Territory, including the period of gubernatorial and Lieutenant Governor administration.
Addressing a public meeting at Mishriwala in the Jammu North Assembly constituency, NC Additional General Secretary and former minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra said the BJP had secured the people’s mandate on the strength of "lofty promises" but failed to translate them into reality.
"The BJP betrayed the trust of the people of Jammu. It sought votes in the name of development, employment, good governance, and equitable growth, but delivered nothing during the so-called ‘Double Engine Government’ period from 2014 to 2024," Sadhotra said.
He cited unfulfilled pledges such as ?15 lakh to each family, crores of jobs for youth per year, and doubling farmers’ income by 2022, asserting that the region instead witnessed "neglect on all fronts."
Sadhotra also took aim at the BJP’s manifesto promise of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir, claiming the party had consistently opposed the move.

Reiterating the NC’s commitment to people-centric governance, Sadhotra said the Omar Abdullah-led government is making sustained efforts to fulfil public aspirations through transparent and accountable administration.
Earlier, a deputation of women from Asarwan Pandorian and Mishriwala met the NC leader and raised complaints of financial frauds by certain finance agencies. Sadhotra expressed serious concern over reports that farmers, villagers, and small investors had lost huge sums after being lured by false promises of high returns.
He said he had spoken to the IGP Crime Branch, urging immediate cognisance of the complaints, a comprehensive probe, and swift action against the guilty. "Innocent people investing their hard-earned savings should not become victims of fraudulent schemes," he said, advising the public to verify credentials of financial companies before investing.
Others who spoke included Ved Prakash Sharma, Sandeep Singh Manhas, Tilak Raj Bhagat, and several local leaders. (KNS)
