Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” an Awareness Programme held at Amar Singh College, Srinagar

Srinagar December 02 (KNS): A one-day programme under the banner of My Town, My Pride, was organised by the District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Mission Shakti, Srinagar, in collaboration with Debates and Seminars Committee and Department of Sociology, Amar Singh College, Cluster University, Srinagar.


Principal, Amar Singh College, Prof Bashir Ahmad Rather, in his welcome address welcomed everyone, including the officials from the Social Welfare Department, UT of J&K. In his address, Prof. Rather talked in detail about the unfavourable sex ratio in India and the need for the implementation of schemes like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao in India. He traced the origins and evolution of the scheme. The Principal also talked about various initiatives taken at the college for the empowerment of the female-students.

The address was followed by a special speech by Mr. Hafiz Abdul Bari, Tehsil Social Welfare Officer. Mr. Bari gave an elaborate and detailed information about the various objectives and programmes of the Social Welfare Department.

Resource persons, Dr. Shabnam Ara, Head, Department of Sociology , Amar Singh College, and Dr. Syed Sania, National Health Mission Officer, spoke on the issue. 
A group of students of the College performed a skit on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao. Students also sang songs based on the theme.

The event was moderated by Arif and Sadia, students from the 4th and Ist semester respectively.

The Programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Head, Department of English and Coordinator, Debates and Seminars Committee, Prof Henna Amin.(KNS)
