Srinagar, June 29 (KNS): A court in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district has directed Delhi Public School (DPS), Delina, to ensure the holistic educational development of a minor student, holding that education is not confined to classroom learning alone.
In an order, the Court of the 1st Additional District Judge, Baramulla, clarified that its earlier interim direction allowing the student to continue with his "academic arrangement" was never intended to be limited to classroom attendance.
The court said the expression "academic arrangement" includes participation in picnics, educational tours, sports, cultural programmes, competitions and other co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.

Observing that education extends beyond textbooks and classrooms, the court said such activities are integral to the overall development of a child.
It directed the school to treat the student on a par with other students and allow participation in all academic and co-curricular activities, subject to the same institutional rules, discipline and fee requirements applicable to others.
The clarification came while interpreting its earlier interim order passed in connection with the student's continuation in the school.(KNS).
