The restrictions came into force at 8:30 PM and will remain effective till 10:00 PM on July 15, officials said.

 

The order was issued by the District Magistrate, Baramulla, on the recommendation of the Sr. Superintendent of Police, Budgam, who cited "escalating tensions between two groups" and "strong apprehension of breach of peace and disturbance to law and order" during the 29th of Muharram procession, according to the official directive.

 

As per the order, no assembly or congregation of four or more persons shall be allowed in the notified village and its adjoining areas. All processions have been prohibited and carrying of firearms or any article capable of being used as a weapon of offence has been barred, except for personnel of armed forces, police, magistrates, or public servants on duty.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

 

The administration has also prohibited the use of loudspeakers or any amplifying devices for making speeches or announcements without prior permission of the District Magistrate.

 

Official sources said adequate security forces have been deployed across the affected area to ensure strict compliance of the orders. Duty magistrates have been positioned at strategic locations as per the directive of the SDM Pattan.

 

The Sr. Superintendent of Police of Baramulla and Budgam have been directed to take necessary action, while the District Information Officer, Baramulla, has been asked to give wide publicity to the prohibitory order, sources added.

 

The restrictions have been imposed to maintain peace and tranquility and to prevent any imminent danger to life and property during the sensitive religious observance, officials said.

 

Authorities have appealed to the public to cooperate with the administration and adhere to the curbs, they added. (KNS)
