Srinagar, Jul 15 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir government has approved the upgradation of the Balhama Irrigation Canal in Srinagar at an estimated cost of ?2.72 crore, fulfilling a long-pending demand of local residents, MLA Ahsan Pardesi said on Wednesday.
In a statement, Pardesi said the project, approved by the Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) Department, will strengthen the irrigation network in the area and ensure a reliable water supply to agricultural land.
He said the canal upgrade is expected to improve farming conditions, enhance agricultural productivity and boost the livelihoods of people dependent on agriculture in Balhama.

"The project will go a long way in addressing the irrigation problems faced by the people and contribute to sustainable agricultural growth in the region," the MLA said.
Pardesi expressed gratitude to the I&FC Department for approving the project and said it had been a long-standing demand of the local population.
He also said the National Conference government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, remains committed to undertaking development works and addressing public issues across Jammu and Kashmir.(KNS
