Srinagar, Apr 19 (KNS): Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) President Ghulam Nabi Azad on Friday expressed regret over the war of words with some political leaders.

Azad had called National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah a "Tourist", saying he spend most of the months in London and comes to Kashmir occasionally.

"During a recent exchange with some politicians, I engaged in a regrettable verbal altercation. This behavior is uncharacteristic of me and goes against my nature. Throughout my four decades in Parliament, I have refrained from speaking negatively about any party or leader. My supporters will refrain from disparaging remarks about any party or candidate. Our primary objective should be to serve the people we represent", Azad told reporters at Anantnag while accompanying his Party Candidate Saleem Parrey who filed nomination papers for Anantnag-Rajouri constituency.

On being asked why he decided not to contest the seat despite public demand, Azad said that Parray is his representative and voting for him is akin to voting for Azad himself.

"This 40-year-old youth, an advocate, who used to fight public cases in high court, lower court and district court, will now represent our state and its people in India’s highest seat of democracy, the Lok Sabha,” he said.

Pertinent to mention, 10 candidates have filed nomination papers from the Anantnag-Rajouri constituency including NC’s Mian Altaf and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti.(KNS)
