Srinagar June 11 (KNS): The Muharram processions are an integral part of the religious and cultural fabric of our community. They provide an opportunity for spiritual reflection, unity, and remembrance. The designated route from Madin Sahab (Hawal) to Ali Pora (BotaKadal) serves as a vital lifeline for the smooth flow of these processions. However, without the completion of the much-needed drain work, the community faces numerous challenges, including potential disruptions, safety concerns, and inconveniences.

Last year, during the sacred observance of Muharram, local authorities provided assurance to the community that the much-awaited drain work from Madin Sahab to Ali Pora(Botakadal) would be completed within 15 days. This particular route holds utmost significance as it serves as the main pathway for the 8th and 10th Muharram grand processions. However, it is highly disappointing that there is lack of progress on the ground despite the promises made.

The community had placed its trust in the authorities’ commitment to ensuring the timely completion of the drain work. Regrettably, to date, no substantial progress has been made, leaving the community in a state of frustration and uncertainty. The failure to fulfil these promises has had a significant impact on the preparations for the upcoming Muharram processions.

The Urban Engineering and Development (UED) department, entrusted with the crucial task of managing the drain project in the Zadibal area and addressing the clogged drain issue at Mill Stop, has been facing significant challenges, leading to an alarmingly slow pace of progress. The UED department, responsible for planning and implementing urban infrastructure projects, has been grappling with various obstacles that have hindered the timely completion of these critical initiatives. Despite the urgency of the drain project in the Zadibal area and the persistent clogged drain problem at Mill Stop, the UED department has struggled to overcome logistical hurdles, bureaucratic delays, and resource constraints, resulting in frustration among the affected residents. It is imperative that the UED department promptly addresses these issues and employs effective strategies to expedite the projects, ensuring the well-being and convenience of the community.

It is indeed disheartening to observe that during high-profile events like the G20 summit, authorities from various regions of the country come together to tackle issues and grievances promptly and efficiently. The collective efforts and coordination displayed on such occasions are commendable. However, it is regrettable that similar urgency and attention are often lacking when it comes to resolving local issues. While the international stage may demand swift action and immediate resolution, it is equally crucial to prioritize the concerns and problems faced by local communities on a day-to-day basis. Neglecting these matters can lead to a growing sense of frustration and disillusionment among citizens who feel their voices are unheard and their problems unresolved. It is essential for authorities to recognise the importance of addressing both global and local issues with equal commitment and efficiency to foster a sense of trust and well-being within their respective communities.

Youth Jammu And Kashmir Peoples Conference respectfully urges the LG administration to give due importance and ensure basic amenities are maintained by various departments during the sacred month of Muharram viz reliable and uninterrupted power supply (JKDISCOM), providing proper security arrangements (JK Police), maintaining efficient and well-planned routes which will be essential for optimized transportation and reduce traffic congestion (JK Traffic Police), ensuring proper public health and sanitation facilities (SMC), accessible and quality healthcare services (Directorate of Health Services) , blacktopping of Roads and Bridges (R&B / SMC), ensuring proper food supplies through CAPD department and proper water supply (Jal Shakti).

The observance of Muharram is a time of solemnity and devotion for all the Muslims. It is disheartening to witness the lack of progress on this essential infrastructure projects, despite the promises made by the authorities. I sincerely hope that the local authorities will prioritize this matter and work diligently to fulfill their commitments, ensuring a seamless and spiritually fulfilling Muharram for all.I genuinely hope that the LG administration takes our request seriously and takes proactive steps to initiate a meaningful dialogue with all stakeholders representing the Shia community. It is crucial that they address the concerns raised by the community and work collaboratively to find effective solutions by engaging in open and inclusive discussions which can foster understanding, promote harmony, and ensure that the concerns of the Shia community are acknowledged and addressed appropriately.(KNS)
