Arms consignment dropped through drone in Kathua recovered: SSP Kathua


Jammu, Sept 22 (KNS): Security forces on Tuesday claimed to have recovered a consignment of arms and ammunition in Akhnoor area of Jammu district which was dropped through a drone.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua Shridhar Patil while addressing a press conference said that Jammu Police along with special forces troops of army have recovered consignment of arms and ammunition in Akhnoor area of Jammu.
“On receipt of credible information a joint search operation was launched, all the subordinate units/ Naka were alert to derail the nefarious design anti-national elements. The search operation started at various places in Jammu including Sohal Khad, Shamshan Ghat, Punnu Chowk, Sohal Market etc of Akhnoor”, SSP said.
He said during search operation consignment of arms and ammunition was recovered from Sohal Khad, at about 00:50 Hrs in the intervening night of 21, 22 September.
SSP said that while recovering the consignment a drone sound was heard but due to dark the same was not visible from the said place. Continuous search led to recovery of another consignment of arms and ammunition.
“The recovered Arms and ammunition was dropped by the militants to carry out militant activities in J&K UT”, SSP said.
“Arms recovered includes 02 AK-47 Assault Rifles, 02 AK Magazines, 90 Rounds of 7.62 MM Ammunition, 01 Star Pistol, 02 Pistol Magazines, 14 Rounds of 9 MM Ammunition (Star Pistol), Packaging stuff containing blue Thermacol wrapped in adasive tape with wooden attached fittings (fittings 2 Pkts and Synthetic /parachute thread 2 rolls about 300 mts in length each”, he said.
The police officer said that a case under FIR No. 156/2020 U/S 121, 121-A, 123, 120-B, IPC, 13/21 ULA(P) Act, 7/27 Indian Arms Act stands registered in Police station Akhnoor and investigation taken up. (KNS)
