PDP to boycott Panchayat, Municipal polls: Mehbooba

Urges Govt to review its decision to hold polls at this juncture


Srinagar: Citing the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday decided to boycott the Panchayat and Municipal elections in state.
Addressing party members in the emergency meeting called over the conduct of polls, PDP president, Mehbooba Mufti said that “the situation linking panchayat polls to Article 35-A case in Supreme Court (SC) has created apprehensions in minds of people. Party therefore urges the Govt to review its decision to hold polls at this juncture.”
Further, former Chief Minister said that “looking at this situation, we have decided to stay away from this process.”
Earlier, National Conference (NC) also announced poll boycott in view of the Article 35-A and 370, saying that they will not contest in any polls until Government of India clears its stand over the Article 35-A, 370. (KNS)
