Srinagar, Nov 16 (KNS): Former union minister, Prof. Saifuddin Soz, has said that the fire that damaged the spire of the Khanqa-e-Moallah worried him as the shrine is so dear to Kashmiris as one of their most sacred cultural and religious heritage.
“It was heartening to know that the people in the neighbourhood rushed to the scene to save this invaluable treasure who were also joined by the fire brigade, just on time.”
“Having said this, I want to explain the urgency for the people to be conscious about protection of Khanqa-e-Moallah and other precious heritage sites such as Jamia Masjid, Hazratbal Shrine, Charar-e-Sharief, Baba Rishi, Hazrat Sultan-ul-Arifeen and others.”
“We must be clear on one thing that any damage to these most important heritage sites will injure the feelings of the masses. So, all precautions have to be taken. In fact, the Govt. should make a comprehensive project for protection of such sacred sites under Promotion of Religious Tourism,” Soz said.
“We must also take notice of the fact that the Khanqah had suffered damage in 1480, 1493 and 1731. I am sure that it is possible in the present day technological development to ensure that Khanqa-e-Moallah and other sacred heritage sites can be fully protected for the future.” (KNS)
