Srinagar, Aug 19 (KNS):  Apple growers are facing an acute shortage of wooden apple boxes across the Kashmir valley.

The shortage of wooden apple boxes has left the apple growers in distress.
“Even if apple boxes are available at any place, they are being sold at exorbitant rates,”

A fruit grower from Kupwara told Kashmir News Service that earlier the apple box was sold at 50-60 rupees, but now the same is being sold at 100-120 per box.

He said the fruit growers have suffered tremendously in the past many years for various reasons, and the current exorbitant rates of apple boxes have added to their miseries.

“The apple growers complain they are facing a shortage since the government has allowed some 60 ply wood factories in the Kashmir valley.”

They stated that the material that was used to make apple boxes is now being  used at these factories, which has left the apple growers in distress.

The apple growers have urged the Lieutenant Governor, Monoj Sinha, to intervene in the matter as they can't afford further losses and regulate it's prices. (KNS)
