Anjuman condemns continuous house arrest of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq

 Srinagar, Sept 01 (KNS): Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar condemned the authorities for continued house detention of its president Mirwaiz Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq for more than four years.

In a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Anjuman said that today is the 210th  consecutive Friday when he was not allowed to perform important religious duty of offering Friday prayer or deliver the sermon .

The statement reads that due to his continued house arrest, the centuries-old pulpit of Jama Masjid has fallen silent, causing great pain  among those who visit the mosque on Fridays.

It reads that he has sent a legal notice two weeks back to the authorities over his detention.

Anjuman said that if no response comes in some time , Mirwaiz will be going to the court with his case and appealed to the authorities to release him. (KNS)
