Budgam, Aug 28(KNS): President of Anjuman-e-Sharie Shian Agha Syed Hassan Mosavi Al-Safvi on Friday called for Muslim unity, mutual respect and ethical conduct, urging the community to reject sectarian prejudice and promote peaceful coexistence.
Addressing the Friday congregation at Markazi Imambara in Budgam during Unity Week, Mosavi said the period between 12 and 17 Rabi al-Awwal, associated with the birth anniversaries of Prophet Muhammad and Imam Jafar al-Sadiq, provides an opportunity to reinforce the common foundations of the Muslim community.
He said unity was not merely a political necessity but also a Quranic responsibility.
“Unity does not require any school of thought to abandon its beliefs,” he said, stressing that Muslims could maintain their respective convictions while preserving Islamic brotherhood, dignity and peaceful coexistence.
Referring to the Seerah of Prophet Muhammad, Mosavi said the Prophet transformed a divided society into a united community through faith, justice and fraternity.
He also cited the examples of Imam Ali and Imam Jafar al-Sadiq, saying their teachings emphasised steadfastness in principles alongside honesty, justice, ethical conduct and respect for others.
Religious commitment, he said, should never be expressed through insults, contempt or denigration of fellow Muslims, and public religious discourse should focus on awareness, character-building and social harmony rather than hatred.
In the political portion of his address, Mosavi spoke about the limitations of military power, referring to the United States' experiences in Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq.
He argued that military strength alone could not determine outcomes when confronted by a people's resolve, cultural confidence and commitment to sovereignty.
A nation's real strength, he said, lies in a combination of defensive capability and "soft power", including faith, public awareness, unity, justice, resilience and national will.
Referring to Iran, Mosavi said its deterrence and internal cohesion demonstrated, in his view, the importance of combining military preparedness with collective resolve.
He concluded by calling upon Muslims to build stronger communities through principled faith, moral conduct, mutual respect and unity in the face of internal divisions and external pressures.(KNS).
