New Delhi, Feb 11 (KNS): India opener Abhishek Sharma has been admitted to a private hospital in Delhi after suffering a stomach infection, casting doubt over his availability for the T20 World Cup group-stage match against Namibia.

According to reports, Abhishek was unwell even before India’s previous match against the USA, and his condition worsened after the game. He was running a high fever and was given drips for relief. The left-handed batter did not attend the team’s practice session at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday.

During the USA match, Abhishek was dismissed for a golden duck and did not take the field while India bowled. Sanju Samson fielded in his place for the entire innings. He also missed the post-match handshakes after India secured victory.

A BCCI source said medical tests are being conducted to determine the exact problem, and it remains unclear when he will be discharged.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelAs of now, his participation in the Namibia match appears doubtful.

Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate said the team is hopeful of his recovery. “Abhishek still has some issues with his stomach. We hope he will be available in two days’ time,” he told reporters.

Meanwhile, Washington Sundar has joined the Indian squad ahead of the February 12 fixture against Namibia and will train with the team.

The team management also provided an update on Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness. Doeschate said the pacer has resumed bowling after a 10-day break and is feeling better. “He is moving well and will bowl again today,” he added.

Reflecting on India’s recent win over the USA, the assistant coach praised captain Suryakumar Yadav for leading from the front. He said the skipper showed strong leadership and played a key role in guiding the team to victory.
