Youth JKPC President Urges Early Declaration of Summer Vacations in View of Soaring Temperatures

Srinagar, June 20 (KNS): Mudasir Karim, the Youth President of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference (JKPC), has strongly urged the government to reconsider the fixed date of July 1st for the commencement of summer vacations in schools across the Valley, citing health concerns for children amid rising temperatures.

In a statement issued today, Mudasir said, “I was surprised to hear a teacher at a leading private school say that ‘children from lower classes start getting lethargic in the afternoon.’ Do heatwaves come with a schedule? Why are we so fixed on a date when it’s clear that the heat is already affecting young students?”

He emphasized that the government must put the health and well-being of children above routine calendars and urged immediate intervention. “I sincerely request the Hon’ble Chief Minister of J&K to step in and review the situation in consultation with the Meteorological Department.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelTemperature trends should guide the decision, not arbitrary timelines,” he added.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Mudasir further stated, “Let’s not kid ourselves, we all know the condition of most government schools. It would be unrealistic to assume they have any functional infrastructure to keep classrooms cool in this heat. It’s a matter of health, not holidays.”

The Youth JKPC President stressed that the issue transcends politics and called for a people-first approach in policymaking. He appealed to the administration to act proactively and avoid putting students, especially younger ones, through avoidable physical strain due to the weather. (KNS)
