Srinagar, 20 Feb (KNS): Calling out BJP for its abominable and iniquitous politics, Awami Itehad Party asked BJP not to build political castles over people's miseries.
“What happened in 1990's was also a grave failure of New Delhi, history reminds us how the minority Pandits were not provided adequate security and instead asked to move to Jammu by the then Governor,Jagmohan. It is common knowledge how threats against Kashmiri Pandits went totally unchecked by authorities and were literally left at the mercy of God,” statement issued to KNS reads.
“Awami Itehad Party, time and again as a matter of policy asked successive Governments to probe the mass migration of Pandits and take legal action against those who were behind attacks on them. For us they are always Kashmiris first and unlike the current regime in New Delhi we don't differentiate people based on their religion.”
“ In the larger context one must remember in 1990's how soon after the minority Pandit population's migration, Kashmiris faced indiscriminate and brutal slaughter in the form of Gaw Kadal, Handwara, Zakura and Hawal massacres. Anyone having a holistic view of what happened in those years knows there was certainly more to the story than what meet the eye. Was the Pandit Exodus executed to have a free hand in widespread brazen persecution of majority community in Kashmir? Slamming the BJP for its detestable politics, senior party leader and State,” statement reads.
Spokesperson Sheeban Ashai asked BJP where was its empathy and concern for Pandits from last three decades? Kashmiri pandits were made to live a life worst than second class citizens in camps in Jammu and Delhi especially where huge families were made to live in shanty, cramped accommodations far from the comforts of their own homeland.
“The successive regimes especially right wing Parties in New Delhi made the Pandits wilfully suffer and never actually made any tangible efforts to rehabilitate them. All this was done as a design so that the Pandit misery could be used to malign the Kashmiri majority community. Kashmiri pandits must understand the only people who truly can ever relate to their pain are their fellow Kashmiri brothers and sisters, who also have suffered as much since past three decades and must not get hoodwinked by such diabolical,opportunist politics of BJP,” statement reads.(KNS)
