Sgr-Jmu highway closed, air traffic suspended
Srinagar, Feb 06 (KNS): The fresh three-day Western Disturbance has affected the normal life in Jammu and Kashmir as the Valley received a fresh snowfall while as rains lashed Jammu region. The snowfall has led to the closure of Srinagar-Jammu highway and also the surface traffic here in view of poor visibility.
The local MeT department had informed KNS that the fresh WD is affecting JK from Feb 05 evening to Feb 07 evening. They had also said that there is possibility of snowfall and rainfall across the Valley during these three days.
Today, higher reaches of the Valley as well as plains received fresh snowfall, bringing the temperature further down across Kashmir. The rains also lashed Jammu division today.
Light to moderate snowfall was witnessed in some plains of Kashmir including the summer capital Srinagar, MeT officials said.
Meanwhile, officials in the traffic department said that the fresh snowfall in Banihal area has triggered slippery conditions of the roads, thus forcing the authorities to close the vehicular movement on Srinagar-Jammu highway.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Officials informed Kashmir News Service (KNS) one-way traffic from Srinagar to Jammu was being allowed to ply today but the road was closed in view of the present inclement weather conditions.
They added that shooting stones had also occurred on the highway in Ramsoo area. They added that the road will be thrown open after the improvement in weather conditions and the road clearance work.
Meanwhile, the air traffic was also suspended by the authorities today in view of the prevailing weather conditions and poor visibility.
Airport officials told KNS that the flights to and from Srinagar were suspended today while as the operations will be resumed after the improvement in visibility. (KNS)
