Use of substandard material leaves 1.39 crore PHE Scheme defunct in Handwara

Srinagar, Mar 04 (KNS): Public Health Engineering Department has failed to fix the responsibility for turning a water storage tank which was constructed at a cost of Rs 1.39 crore is a non-starter due to the use of low grade construction material in Pahaldaji vilgam Handwara.
The water storage tank was constructed under Buinaag Scheme in 2017 and it got leakage due to the use of sub standard material, residents alleged.
“We are being forced to fetch water from the nearby stream which poses threat of water borne diseases to the residents.”
A resident of Pahaldaji told KNS that they have appealed the higher authorities several times to look into the matter but they are not being heard.
The irony of the higher officials is that even PHE department has failed to reply to an RTI application filed by aggrieved residents.
When Kashmir News Service contacted Executive Engineer PHE Division Handwara Mushtaq Ahmad Zargar, he said, “I will look into the matter and will provide you the details accordingly,” (KNS).
