Uri canal incident: One more Body retrieved, Toll reaches Two

Srinagar, July 14 (KNS): The body of a 12-year-old boy who had gone missing after drowning in a canal near Uri was retrieved on Monday, a day after a family outing turned tragic in Boniyar area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Officials said that a joint team of SDRF Baramulla and Civil Defence Uri recovered the body of Ahmad Bin Khalid, son of Khalid Mehraj Shah, a resident of Hyderpora Srinagar. The boy had drowned while bathing in the Gantamulla power canal on Sunday.

Rescue operations are still underway to trace the remaining missing person, identified as Mehnaz Rashid Shah, son of Abdul Rashid Shah, a resident of Khanyar Srinagar, aged around 40 years.

The incident occurred on Sunday, July 13, when four people reportedly slipped into the waters of the Lower Jhelum Hydroelectric Project canal near Uri.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelSoon after the mishap, rescue teams launched a large-scale search operation.

While one person, Syed Mohammad Ilyas Geelani, 31, of Towheedgunj Baramulla, was rescued in time, the body of another minor, Ibrahim Bin Showkat, 13, son of Showkat Ali Shah from Narkara Budgam, was recovered later the same day.

The condition of the rescued person is stated to be stable, officials said.

Local authorities and rescue teams, including SDRF, Civil Defence, Police, and local volunteers, continued their efforts on Monday to locate the remaining missing person.(KNS)
