Srinagar, Mar 25 (KNS): A cycle rally for Safety Awareness 2017 was Saturday organized by Traffic Police City Srinagar under the Civic Action Programme of J&K Police.
According to the statement issued to KNS, the purpose of the event was to encourage people to move towards eco friendly modes of transport and to send a strict message to discourage underage driving. J&K Traffic Police was supported in this endeavor by J&K Bank, Police Wives Welfare Association, Fire Fox, KRSF, Hyundai, Honda, Himalayan Motors & V-mart.
The Rally was flagged off by Ghulam Hassan Bhat-IPS DIG Traffic, Pallavi Gillain representing Police Wives Welfare Association, Parvez Ahmad Nengroo Chairman CEO J&K Bank, Sargun Shukla-IPS SSP Traffic City Srinagar, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat-KPS SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir.
Around 350 children from various schools all across Srinagar participated in the event. The huge cavalcade of Cyclists in an extremely disciplined formation of batchesrode from Traffic Police office via Dalgate, Boulevard, Lalit, Gupkar, TRC and concluded back at the Traffic Police Office City Srinagar.
While speaking on the occasion Parvez Ahmad Nengroo, Chairman & CEO J&K Bank appreciated the effort put in to emphasize on the safety of youth and pedestrians on the roads and also committed to encourage such initiatives involving the youth.
DIG CKR Srinagar while addressing the cyclists said that the safety of the riders is the prime concern and need of the hour. He congratulated the youth for coming forward together to generate awareness on road safety. He further expressed the concern over the rising rate of accidents and expressed that the Traffic department is committed to work towards reducing such incidents and appreciated the role played by the people and youth in particular. Furthermore he said that cycling is the best means to keep fit and applauded the efforts of the traffic department along with the other organizers.
Dr. Pallavi Gillani from PWWA appreciated the initiative of Traffic Police for creating such events and hoped that these events will be organized regularly. She assured the people that the PWWA is also committed to work for endeavors aimed at involving the youth.
Later SSP Traffic City Srinagar, Sargun Shukla-IPS thanked all the participants, Schools and parents who made event possible. She said that the involvement of youth in any endeavor is an absolute imperative and the manner in which the children are spreading the message of safe riding, clean environment and adherence to Motor Vehicle Rules is commendable. The Traffic Department shall continue to organize such events in future with an aim of amelioration of existing conditions. (KNS)
