Teetwal day celebrated at Karnah

Karnah May 22 (KNS): Army’s Shakti Vijay Brigade celebrated the Teetwal Day at Chamkote Karnah here on Wednesday.

The celebration, an annual ritual, spanned over a month, in which several sports, social and cultural events were organized by the Army.

Teetwal day was celebrated to commemorate the liberation of Teetwal by the Indian Army from Pakistani Raiders in 1948 in which two brave soldiers, Company Havaldar Major Piru Singh and Lance Naik Karam Singh, were posthumously awarded the highest gallantry award of the country, the Param Vir Chakra (PVC).

Teetwal today is one of the many model villages, near the LoC, adopted by the Army and the celebration of Teetwal Day is an annual ritual there.

An official said the grand celebrations this year were spanned over a month, in which several sports, social & cultural events were organised.

The GOC 28 Military division Maj Gen GB Chaudhari, SM, VSM was chief guest on the occasion while Brigade commander Shakti Vijay Brigade Brig Paramvir Singh and many dignitaries; several senior officials of the Tehsil administration attended the celebrations along with Army and BSF officers.

The family members of the awardees were the guests of honour at Teetwal Day celebration,” officials said. (KNS)
