Jammu, Feb 02 (KNS): CPI(M) Secretary and MLA Kulgam M Y Tarigami on Thursday called upon the government to seek the opinions of international security researchers on the current security challenges in Kashmir and sought the withdrawal of pellet guns which according to him has become the symbol of government's increasing unpopular face.
According to the KNS correspondent, taking part in the debate on the motion of the grants moved by Chief Minister for the departments lying under her control, Tarigami said corruption is the mother of mistrust and mistrust in turn is the cause of street violence, militancy and radicalization in many parts of the world where government have faced more toughest challenges than what Jammu & Kashmir government faces in Kashmir today.
Reminding the Chief Minister that self rule is as relevant today as it was few years ago when PDP was pitching for it, the CPI(M) Secretary Tarigami said the withdrawal of pellet guns would be a big Confidence Building Measure (CBM) if Chief Minister announces the decision from the floor of the house before the end of the budget session.
Expressing his dissatisfaction over the reply on the cut motions moved by him on the detention of political workers, the Kulgam MLA said even today scores of political workers are in police lock ups within and outside the state even after the quashment of their detentions under PSA more than half a dozen times in recent months.
Seeking the Chief Minister's intervention for the release of photo journalist Kamran Yousuf and a youth of Qaimoh Kulgam detained by NIA, the MLA Kulgam said if amnesty for the stone pelters is to be implemented the governments both at the Centre and in the state should not have reservation in the release of both the photo journalist Kamran Yousuf and the Qaimoh youth.
