Srinagar, Feb 09 (KNS): With an aim to aware the youth about the ill effects of drug abuse an how to tackle this menace, an awareness program titled ‘Let’s understand drug abuse’ was held, here today.
Organized by Subah Kashmir Welfare Trust, the program witnessed the participation of youth from different parts of Srinagar with diverse professions.
Mental Health Counsellor, Aamir Sultan Dar highlighted various aspects of drug abuse while stressing on parents to inculcate moral values and religious teachings among their children.
He enlightened the audience about the basics concepts of drug abuse including; what are drugs and what is drug abuse, reasons for drug abuse, commonly abused drugs and its impact and how to deal with this problem.
Dar shared various incidences from his experience as Mental Health Counselor while dealing with the drug abusers. He said that many people have gone financially bankrupt due to this abuse.
Speaking on the occasion, Psychiatric social worker, Youth development and rehabilitation center, Manzoor Ahmad Yatoo, while quoting various researches, said that youth in the age group of 12 to 27 years is most vulnerable to drug abuse.
He said that the proper supervision of the youth by parents is the need of an hour. Parents need to share and discuss the family issues with the child so that he feels equally part of the family, otherwise he feels alien in his own house, which many times becomes cause of use of drugs.
Yatoo also spoke about the role of Mohalla committees and Village committees in identifying drug abusers and how rehabilitation programs can help them in regaining their lives.
On the occasion, Chairman, Subah Kashmir Welfare Trust, Zubair Nazir said that such awareness program will be organized regularly to create proper understanding about the life threatening issue which has engulfed the youth of Kashmir.
He said that the organization will continue the drive against drugs at various levels. Besides, various programs on social evils will be conducted on a regular basis.
Later, a question and answer session was held in which the participants participated in a health manner. The event was hosted by Chairman, The Ark Group, Sheikh Owais. (KNS).
