Handwara, Jan 24 (KNS): The encroachment of footpaths by shopkeepers and street vendors in Handwara town of north Kashmir is causing huge inconvenience to pedestrians.
Reports reaching to Kashmir News service said that that it has become routine for Shopkeepers and street vendors to encroach the foot paths and road in Villagam Adda, Court Road, Hospital road and several other places in the town.
Residents said the illegal parking in the roadside and occupation of these vendors and shopkeepers are the main reasons of traffic jam in the town.
They said they have several times appealed the authorities to free the roads and footpaths from occupation but they (Authorities) never paid any heed to their requests.
Fayaz Ahmad, a local resident of Handwara told KNS that the Tehsildar Handwara, Municipality Committee Handwara (MCH) Handwara and Police have carried several raids jointly against the violators but that has not deterred them from doing this illegal practice.
Another resident accused authorities of leaving blue-eyed shopkeepers from any action.
Sources also said they MCH is taking 10-20 rupees from per street vendor in the town and allowing them to stay where they wish which causes the huge traffic jam in the town (KNS).
