Srinagar, Sep 30 (KNS): Residents of the Kathi Darwaza-Saidakadal area here have appealed to Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to personally intervene for resumption of the stalled widening of the Dalgate-Hazratbal road via Rainawari, alleging that the prolonged suspension of work has left them unable to either repair or renovate their ageing homes.
In a representation submitted to the LG, a copy of which is available with News Agency Kashmir News Service (KNS), the residents said the Meerak-Shah (RA) Road Widening Project was taken up more than a decade ago and that the stretch up to Rainawari stands almost complete. However, they claimed the remaining portion of the project has been lying suspended for the past three years.
The residents said their houses fall under the alignment of the pending stretch and are "very old." They alleged that they are neither able to repair their houses nor is permission granted for their renovation, forcing their families to suffer due to "improper accommodation.

"We request your honourable good self to look into the matter personally (and) issue necessary orders for taking up the remaining portion of the road for execution," the representation read.
Underlining the importance of the road, the residents said it leads to the Hazratbal Shrine, the University of Kashmir and NIT, and is also significant from the tourism point of view. They sought early completion of the remaining widening work so that they can take further measures for their rehabilitation, or permission be granted to rebuild their old damaged houses.
