SSP Traffic (Rural) Muzaffar Shah told KNS that the highway remained closed on Sunday and nearly 4000 vehicles were stranded on the 264-km road at various places. “Efforts are on to clear the highway which was closed after slippery road conditions caused by the snowfall in Jawahar Tunnel area and landslides in Ramban belt. We are hopeful that the highway will be cleared soon,” he said.
Meanwhile, with considerable improvement in visibility, flights operated normally at the Srinagar airport on Sunday bringing major respite to the passengers. However, in the morning hours some flight got delayed, officials said.
All the flights at Srinagar airport were cancelled for seven consecutive days from December 8 to 14 due to intense foggy conditions and subsequent snowfall. However, on Saturday, almost half the flights operated while rest got cancelled due to poor visibility. (KNS)
