Srinagar-Jammu highway reopens

Srinagar, Nov 16 (KNS): After remaining closed for two days, the Srinagar-Jammu national highway was reopened for the vehicular traffic on Saturday.

SSP Traffic Rural Mubashir Shah said the highway was opened Saturday afternoon after hectic efforts by the Beacon authorities. “The stranded vehicles along the highway were allowed to move and we are hopeful by evening they will be cleared,” he told KNS.

Shah said if weather permits light motor vehicles will be allowed to move from the both sides of the highway on Sunday.

The 264-km highway was closed for the vehicular traffic on Thursday evening after massive landslides occurred on the road at several places. A few thousand vehicles, including trucks, remain stranded at various places on the highway for two days. (KNS)
