Snowfall leads to closure of Srinagar-Jammu National Highway

 Srinagar, Jan 07 (KNS): As moderate to heavy snowfall occurred in Kashmir on Tuesday, Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was also closed for the traffic due to accumulation of snow on the road.

 
A Traffic police official told KNS that the National Highway was closed for vehicular traffic on Monday evening due to the snowfall. He said road became slippery due to snowfall in Jawahar Tunnel area since last evening and the movement of vehicles was also suspended in Banihal-Qazigund section as well.
SP rural Muzzafer shah told KNS that the road was closed on Monday evening due to fresh snowfall. 
He said efforts were on to clear the snow from the highway.
 
Reports said hundreds of vehicles are stranded from Qazigund to Udhampur due to the blockade of the highway.
 
Muzzafer Shah has appealed the commuters of the both sides not to start their journey from the either side of the road before knowing the status of the road from the traffic police control rooms.
 
It is to pertinent to mention that the highway got blocked several times from November last year
