Rajouri, Sep 13 (KNS) : Two minor sisters died after they were allegedly bitten by a snake in a village in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Saturday.
The incident took place in Manma Barmari village of Kalakote sub-division late Friday night when the two girls were sleeping in a room along with their family members, they said.
The deceased were identified as Amiba (5) and Amiza (3), officials said.
According to officials, a snake appeared on the bed and bit both the sisters.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe family members noticed the reptile and raised an alarm, but the children had already been bitten by then.
The girls were rushed for medical treatment, but both succumbed, officials said.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the village, with locals demanding preventive measures and better medical facilities to deal with such incidents.
Police have taken cognizance of the incident and further investigation is underway, officials added. (KNS)
