Sikh forum condemns 'manhandling by police' of journalist Amrit Pal Singh

Srinagar, May 26 (KNS): “While performing duties irrespective of job profile one should be outstanding in performing it like a soldier in war. But to hurt the sentiments of a particular faith while performing duties by a police personnel is highly condemnable and unacceptable,” said United Sikh Forum.

In a statement issued to KNS, Spokesperson of United Sikh Forum (USF) said, “On the day of counting of votes, when NC Supremo Dr Farooq Abdullah has been declared winning candidate from Srinagar constituency, to cover and perform the duty of journalist S Amritpal Singh when reached at gate of NC party headquarter Srinagar, Mr Singh has been manhandled and the police personnel appointed at the gate for frisking has touched the turban of Mr Amritpal Singh twice. On objection from Mr Singh not to touch my turban again and again, police personnel has manhandled with Mr Singh and created hurdles for him for performing duties as a professional journalist and entering into the NC party headquarter.”

“When this episode has reached among the Sikh community, it has brought anger and complain against the government that they become partial and gives stepmother justice with Sikh community while delivering justice in the case of Sikhs. But we are hopeful from this government that they will definitely take action against the police personnel and will diminish the old setup of justice,” USF Spokesperson said.
