Shubman Gill Named Vice-Captain as India Announce Asia Cup T20 Squad


New Delhi, Aug 19 (KNS): Opener Shubman Gill has returned to India’s T20I squad and been appointed vice-captain for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE. The 25-year-old, who missed the England series, will support skipper Suryakumar Yadav.

Gill joins Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma as the three frontline openers. There is no place for Yashasvi Jaiswal or Shreyas Iyer, while Jitesh Sharma comes in as the second wicketkeeper.

The squad also sees the return of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, India’s Player of the Series at the 2024 T20 World Cup, replacing Mohammed Shami. India, eight-time Asia Cup champions, will open their campaign against UAE in Dubai on September 10.
