Gurez, July 21 (KNS): Several hamlets of Gurez Valley in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district are reeling under darkness for the past few days after a generator supplying electricity to the villages developed a snag, locals complained here on Monday.
Locals said the generator installed in Neeru has developed a fault that has put many hamlets of Neeru and Neeru Shath into darkness troubling the inhabitants.
“Without electricity people are facing a lot of inconvenience. Even though we are not able to charge our mobiles,” the locals said.
They said that the students have to face the maximum brunt as they are the worst sufferers due to lack of electricity in the village.
The residents of Neeru in the Gurez have accused the administration of failing to repair the damaged generator of the area, consisting of four villages, for several weeks, thus forcing the villagers to reel under darkness.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Meanwhile, the locals appealed to Deputy Commissioner Bandipora to personally look into the matter and help to resolve their grievances.
Notably, the parts of Gurez region depend on diesel-set generated power supply for several hours while the government is working on a project to get Gurez Valley connected with grid stations in Bandipora for regular electricity.
Assistant Executive Engineer Gurez Abdul Rashid said that some parts had developed faults, and there was conflict among residents about lifting the genset. He said he has talked to people and the genset shifted to Bandipora for repair.
He said it will take a few days to repair the genset. “We will repair it as soon as possible and restore the electricity”. (KNS)
