District produces 41000 kg Cocoon; says Dy Director

Bandipora, Feb 19 (KNS): Department of Sericulture on Monday organized a day-long training programme for farmers here at Sericulture Farm Aytmulla in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
The programme was held under Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) in which a large gathering of silkworm rearers participated.
The training programme was aimed at imparting the latest technology on Sericulture, providing technical know-how to the participants for better cocoon production and creating awareness about the ongoing programmes provided by the department.
Deputy Director Sericulture, Peerzada Khursheed Ahmad briefed about the activities of Sericulture Department and said that 41000 kgs of cocoon production has been recorded in the District during 2017-18, generating an income of Rs 90.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel46 lac for Silkworm rearers.
He said that 721units have been established under private sector in the district while as four departmental nurseries also exist here where from mulberry saplings are being distributed among silkworm rearers.
Cheques worth Rs 97500 were also provided to beneficiaries under Catalic Development Programme for construction of rearering houses during the training programme.
Later, the Deputy Director Sericulture along with Tehsil Officer Farooq Ahamd kick-started the plantation drive in the Sericulture Farm.
He said that as many as 42000 saplings of mulberry would be planted in the District this year to boost Sericulture sector. (KNS)
