Sehrai pays tribute to Gaw Kadal, Handwara, Kupwara martyrs

Srinagar, Jan 19 (KNS): Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Chairman Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai while paying tributes to the martyrs of Gaw Kadal, Handwara and Kupwara massacres on their anniversaries; said it was this week, almost three decades back, when the people of Kashmir couldn’t stand anymore at the crossroads.
“When people couldn’t bear the decades’ old humiliation anymore and they came out without any fear. When the shackles of forcible enslavement were twisted and cracked and the rivers and skies turned blood red,” Sehrai said in a statement issued to KNS.
Sehrai termed these massacres as ‘biggest human investment of our ongoing freedom struggle’, which according to him gave a new impetus and direction to freedom movement.
“Gaw Kadal (Srinagar) was the first major massacre fallowed by Handwara and Kupwara during Kashmir’s ongoing resistance movement when the occupational forces opened fire at unarmed Kashmiris and killed more than 50 innocent people on 21st Jan 1990,” he said.
He said that “carnage at Gaw Kadal, Handwara and Kupwara remind us of Indian brutal occupation and aggression. We as a nation are indebted to these pious sacrifices and it’s our religious and moral duty to safe guard these exemplary sacrifices collectively and to take a pledge in this "week of genocide" that we will take this priceless struggle to its ultimate conclusion.”
“It is imperative upon the people of Kashmir to show commitment and steadfastness towards the movement in order to realize the mission of the martyrs,” he said.
He said that 29 years had passed since the massacre, but neither had any probe been ordered into the massacre nor the guilty nabbed and punished rather rewarded and further enhanced impunity to carry out such heinous crimes .
“Since then the unprecedented use of violence by the forces against the innocent Kashmiris is a daily affair of forces. So, we appeal international community and every human rights organisation to probe all these massacres to restore your reduced credibility which is at stake since decades as you prefer trade, strategic and economical interests over human tragedies and fundamental basic rights which have been promised to us,” he added.
Meanwhile, on the directions of Sehrai, a delegation led by (TeH) district president Bandipora visited the residence of Journalist Muhammad Sayeed Beigh who lost his father and offered condolence and to the bereaved family and prayed for the deceased soul. (KNS)
