Srinagar, Aug 09 (KNS): The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has informed the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court that a decision regarding the prosecution of several IAS officers allegedly involved in the arms license scam will likely be taken within the next six weeks.
The submission was made during the hearing of a case concerning the scam, in which the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has alleged that thousands of gun licences were illegally issued to ineligible individuals between 2012 and 2016, when Jammu and Kashmir was still a state.
The alleged irregularities occurred during the tenure of several district magistrates, 13 of whom were IAS officers, and three from the Kashmir Administrative Service (KAS).
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Arun Palli and Justice Rajnesh Oswal was hearing the matter.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelDuring the proceedings, Deputy Solicitor General Vishal Sharma submitted that the Ministry had received three separate proposals for prosecution sanction — forwarded by the CBI and the J&K Administration — and that these are currently under examination.
He said the process was being carried out as per established rules, and assured the court that a decision is expected within six weeks. He also agreed to submit a follow-up affidavit detailing the final position once available.
The case had previously seen delays due to incomplete documentation. The MHA had earlier directed the UT administration to provide necessary legal opinions and investigation summaries to support the CBI's recommendations (KNS).
