Kulgam Aug 02 (KNS): Minister for Health, Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, Sakeena Itoo, on Saturday laid the foundation stone for a 10 MVA Receiving Station at Manzgam, Kulgam, aimed at improving the region’s electricity infrastructure and addressing long-pending demands of the local population.

Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony, the Minister said the new station will significantly enhance power supply and reliability in the area. “This project marks a major step forward in strengthening our power infrastructure. It will benefit thousands of households and support local industries, schools, and healthcare institutions,” she said.

Sakeena Itoo thanked Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for sanctioning the project and said it reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive development, especially in underserved rural regions. “Our aim is not just to announce schemes but to deliver real change on the ground. This receiving station is a symbol of that commitment,” she added.

Later in the day, the Minister presided over the Sampoornata Abhiyan Samman Samaroh at the Sports Stadium Manzgam, held as part of NITI Aayog’s Aspirational Blocks Programme. Manzgam block was honoured for achieving 100% saturation in six development indicators, earning Kulgam district a Gold Medal under the national initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2023.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The event, organised by the District Administration Kulgam, featured the inauguration of a week-long Akanksha Haat—an exhibition space to showcase local crafts, SHG (Self Help Group) products, and farmer produce.

Addressing a large gathering, the Minister underlined the importance of awareness in ensuring that government schemes reach intended beneficiaries. “Many employment schemes exist, especially for women and youth. We must raise awareness so people can take full advantage,” she said.

She also stressed the role of continuous outreach and community involvement in ensuring inclusive progress.

Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Athar Aamir Ul Shafi Khan appreciated the efforts of officials and local stakeholders in transforming Manzgam into a top-performing block. Earlier, he accompanied the Minister in inspecting various departmental stalls highlighting welfare and development schemes.

During the ceremony, the Minister felicitated frontline workers, block and district-level officers, and other contributors under the Sampoornata Abhiyan programme.

The event was attended by DDC Chairman Kulgam, DDC members, senior officials, and a large number of local residents. (KNS)
