SKIMS on path of strengthening manpower, equipments and filling other infra gaps

 Srinagar, Jan 24 (KNS): Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences is on a path to strengthen its manpower and equipments on a very fast track mode along with various other infrastructural developments related to construction of State Cancer Institute and other such landmark projects.

 
“The recent selections and promotions of the faculty members in the Institute are historic in this direction. Selection/promotion of the Professors and other categories in the teaching faculty have been concluded in a record time of just two weeks without any hassle that has enhanced the patient care in various branches of Cancer related services and other super-speciality areas that has been highly appreciated by all circles of the teaching faculty as well as the society at large,” an official of the SKIMS said.
 
Chief Secretary, Chairman of the Apical Selection Committee,          B.V.R Subhramanyam entrusted Atal Dulloo Financial Commissioner, Health & Medical Education Department to expedite the process of selection at the earliest possible time, an official told KNS.
 
“The process was assisted by the top functionaries of various other Institutions of the county including AIIMS New Delhi, PGIMER Chandigarh, SGPGI Lucknow and other leading Institutions of the Country. all these appointees/promotees have already joined their services in their respective positions,” official said.
 
Director, SKIMS & Ex-Officio Secretary to Government, Prof. A.G. Ahangar while giving details said that shortage of faculty was being felt with severity for a quite long time and this often caused problems for the patient care.
 
“Keeping this into consideration, we decided that the shortage of required staff be met without wasting time and in a transparent manner. All the necessary rules and regulations were followed in the selection process that was concluded in the shortest period of time. I am proud that this initiative has resulted in selection and promotion of many Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors in our Institution with its impact on the Patient Care,” Director SKIMS told KNS.
 
 He also asserted that there are several areas especially those which are involved with the treatment and management of cancer patients and where Faculty was desperately needed, for example in view of the unprecedented rise in the number of cancer patients, two Assistant Professors in Medical Oncology, one each Assistant Professor in Radiation Oncology and Surgical Oncology who were appointed have already joined their respective streams.
 
These competent professionals have started their services and he felt confident that it will further enhance the quality of cancer treatment and other patient care services at this Institution, he said.
 
The Director expressed that many critical issues at the administrative level at SKIMS are also being addressed on fast track basis, so that the Organization can provide optimum facilities to the people.
 
In a recent meeting held under the chairmanship of  Lieutenant Governor, G.C. Murmu with Director, Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences while reviewing various projects/issues related to the SKIMS assured Director SKIMS that Government will wholeheartedly support various infrastructural developmental and other components of the tertiary care at SKIMS under two plans: Short Term Financial Plan for next 3 years and Perspective Plan for 5 years without resorting to any adhocism.
 
 The  Lieutenant Governor directed the functionaries of SKIMS to prepare a Comprehensive Futuristic Plan with Vision of Growth and Development of SKIMS and Health Infrastructure and Medi-care Facilities and submit the DPRs for creation of State-of-Art Trauma Centre and proposal for filling up the vacant posts and creation of the posts of Professors/Associate Professors in Emergency Medicine and Blood Transfusion & Immuno Haematology.
 
 He further asked the SKIMS functionaries to conduct a comparative study of SKIMS with other Deemed Medical Universities of repute and Hospitals across the Country and suggest measures for improving different processes and procedures of SKIMS by emulating from best practices as well as revenue generation and fee structure of the students.
 
The  Lieutenant Governor emphasized and instructed the functionaries to shun adhocism of any sort across all levels and asked them to effectively utilize the available manpower and infrastructural resources to provide the best possible medical facilities to the people.
 
The y Chief Secretary, B.V.R Subrahmanyam, Financial Commissioner, Finance  Department, Arun Kumar Mehta, Financial Commissioner, Health & Medical Education Department, Atal Duloo, and Additional Director SKIMS, Mathoora Masoom, who also participated in the meeting, appreciated the role of SKIMS as a Leading and Premier Health Care Institution in this Northern part of the Country and the Leader in Medical Education, that has set its own standards and is a brand in itself, recognized not only at National but International level also.
 
“SKIMS was also lauded for its exemplary performance in providing the best facilitates to the patients under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana Scheme (AB-PMJAY) in a recently held function at Jammu Club, Jammu wherein Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Minister of State, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and Rajiv Rai Batnagar, Advisor to Lieutenant Governor graced the occasion as the Guests of Honour besides many other functionaries.
 
“SKIMS was awarded for its exceptional performance as the top most Institution in the Country in implementation of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) Scheme that has crossed 3140 cases alone in this scheme while having registered 2655 cases in a record period of one year only and patients benefitted to the tune of approximately Rs. 4.00 Crore under this scheme, “ an official of the SKIMS said.
 
In order to give the best possible relief to the patients and economically weaker sections under various schemes, the Government of India has in fact inaugurated two outlets under AMRIT Scheme for Drugs, Disposables and other Consumable items at SKIMS, one in OPD and another in Emergency Area.
 
The event was held at SKICC which was presided over by Minister of State for AYUSH (Independent Charge) and  Minister of State for Defence, Shripad Yesso Naik along with other dignitaries on the dais including Financial  Commissioner, Health & Medical Education Department,  Atal Duloo, IAS, Director SKIMS, Prof. A.G. Ahangar,                                         District Development Commissioner Srinagar Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary,Director Health Services, Kashmir, Principal Government Medical College Srinagar and other functionaries of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir.
