Srinagar, Nov 20 (KNS): The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology of SKIMS Medical College & Hospital, Bemina Srinagar today organised a CME (CSEP and a Live Operative Workshop) on Endometriosis wherein the subject experts from outside State Dr. B.B. Dash Dr. Ajay Wakhloo demonstrated the live surgeries.
The inaugural function was chaired by Bali Baghat, Minister for Health & Medical Education, J&K State as Chief Guest. Noor Mohammad Sheikh, MLA Batmaloo and Prof. M. S. Khuroo, Former Director SKIMS & Member, SKIMS Governing Body were Guests of Honour on this occasion whereas Prof. A. G. Ahangar, Director SKIMS & Ex-officio Secretary to Govt. and Prof.Altaf Rehman Kirmani, Dean, Medical Faculty, SKIMS participated as Special Guests.
The Organizing Chairperson of the Workshop, Prof.RifatAra, HOD Gynaecology & Obstetrics, SKIMS Medical College, Bemina explained the importance of the workshop and stated that such surgical procedures are being done in a few centres of the State.
The Minister stated that the Govt. has taken so many measures to strengthen the medical education and health care institutions of the State. He complemented the Principal, Dr Reyaz Untoo for his tireless efforts and putting the SKIMS Medical College on fast track development and assured full support from the Govt. for development of SKIMS Medial College, Bemina. He said that it is his dream to see SKIMS Medical College as an independent College at par with other Medical Colleges of the State and efforts are being put in to amalgamate the newly constructed 250 bedded Maternity & Child Care Hospital with SKIMS Medical College-Hospital, Bemina which will enhance overall and its earliest functioning in 2018 will address the high load of maternity patients in the Valley.
The MLA Batmaloo, Noor Mohammad Sheikh, in his address complemented the Principal, SKIMS Medical College, Bemina, Prof.Reyaz A. Untoo for his commendable job of streamlining the affairs of SKIMS Medical College & Hospital and complemented the Department of Gynae& Obstetrics of SKIMS Medical College, Bemina for their efforts and herculean task of operating a large number of emergency patients referred from Govt. L. D. Hospital in May, 2017 when fire suddenly in the evening affected the emergency services there. The MLA assured full support for amalgamation of newly constructed 250 bedded Maternity & Child Care Hospital with the SKIMS Medical College, Bemina, as this Medical College has manpower to make the newly constructed hospital functional without any delay thereby addressing the problems of patients as most of the patient having easy access report to JVC 1st being on highway.
Prof. M. S. Khuroo stressed the need of the hour to strengthen the institution by putting in collective efforts and creating better patient care services both in quality and quantity.
The Director SKIMS lauded the work of the Principal SKIMS Medical College, Bemina, Prof. Reyaz Untoo for his hectic efforts since he has taken the charge of the Principal resulting in growth of the SKIMS Medical College in every sphere as such a fast growth was not seen during the last 19 years.
The Dean of the Medical Faculty, SKIMS gave a brief over the academic development of SKIMS Medical College resulting in enhancement of admission intake capacity in respect of MBBS Seats as well as PG seats in SKIMS Medical College by the Medical Council of India.
The Principal of the College, Dr.ReyazUntoo, explained the measures taken for removal of the deficiencies pointed out by the MCI like faculty, staff and infrastructural deficiencies. Many faculty posts were got filled up through proper selection and more than hundreds of para-medical vacancies filled up through proper selection which resulted in removal of deficiency pointed out by the MCI on account of faculty and other categories of staff. As regards, the infrastructure development, steps are under way for construction of new 250 bedded Hospital which is currently at the stage of Final allotment and for this Works Contract Committee is being held this week at Jammu.
At the end of the programme, MLA Batmaloo, Noor Mohammad Sheikh donated an Ambulance to SKIMS Medical College-Hospital, Bemina out of his Constituency Development Fund.
The function was attended by Senior Professors and Former Teachers like Dr GM Malik, faculty of SKIMS Soura including Dr Altaf Ramzan Member Governing Body SKIMS,Prof GN Yatoo,Dr Firdous Giri the Addl Director SKIMS and Faculty of LD Hospital Srinagar and SKIMS Medical College Bemina. (KNS)
