Restrictions imposed in old city parts to foil attempts of march called by Mirwaiz

Srinagar, May 21 (KNS): Law enforcing authorities Tuesday imposed restrictions in old parts of Srinagar city to vert the attempts of a separatist march called by Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq on the eve of death anniversary of his father late Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Farooq. Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq himself was on Monday evening house detained to foils his planned march from Jamia Masjid to martyrs graveyard Eidgah in old Srinagar city.

The Hurriyat Conference) M) has called for the march to the Martyrs Graveyard in the Old City’s Eidgah area to pay homage to two senior separatist leaders, Mirwaiz Moulana Moulvi Muhammad Farooq and Abdul Gani Lone, who were killed by unidentified assailants on this day in 1990 and 2002.

Mirwaiz Moulana Moulvi Muhammad Farooq, the father of Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq, was killed at his residence in the outskirts of the city on May 21, 1990. While, Abdul Gani Lone, father of Sajad Lone and Lone, was killed at the martyrs graveyard on May 21, 2002.

Restrictions were imposed in the city’s Khanyar, Rainawari, Nowhatta, M.R. Gunj and Safa Kadal areas.

Heavy contingents of police and the paramilitary CRPF have been deployed in strength to maintain peace and order.

Meanwhile, shops, public transport, other business establishments and educational institutions remained shut. (KNS)
