MLA Rafiq Naik Criticizes Policy That Withholds Transformers in Villages Over Unpaid Fees

Tral, Oct 11: Residents of at least four villages in the Tral constituency have been waiting for over a year for electricity transformers to be installed. Though funds have been released by the local MLA, the installation is still pending, causing concern as winter approaches.

Locals say the old transformers can no longer handle the increased load, leading to frequent power outages. With cold weather coming, residents are worried about consistent electricity supply.

Tral MLA Rafiq Ahmed Naik confirmed that funds were allocated for new and upgraded transformers following community consultations.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHowever, a senior official from the electricity department told him transformers will not be installed in areas where some consumers have unpaid electricity dues. While transmission lines and poles can be provided, transformers are being withheld as per this directive.

MLA Naik criticized this policy, saying it is unfair to punish entire villages due to a few defaulters. He has appealed to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to intervene and ensure residents do not face power problems, especially during winter.
