Release all political prisoners, jail walls not enough to stop spread of Covid 19- AIP

Srinagar, Mar 25 (KNS): Urging the Government of the day to understand their responsibility towards people at large Awami Itehad Party very strongly demanded release of all political prisoners who are lodged in jails outside Kashmir. The party stressed upon the safety of lives of scores of Kashmiri leaders irrespective of political ideologies, businessmen, civil society members, lawyers who continue to be incarcerated in various states of India. A statement issued to KNS reads, majority of the people are yet to face trails and have not been proven guilty in any of the cases they are alleged to be involved in ,hence to transfer them to Kashmir is very well within the purview of law. Moreover in view of prevailing conditions it is incumbent on the current Government to ensure sufficient safeguards are taken to guarantee no harm comes in the way of the political detainees. Present day Government must take lessons from goodwill and humanitarian gestures by Governments across the globe at a time when entire world is facing a greater threat. Humanitarian values must be placed above political ambitions, it would be a welcome gesture in consonance with the united fight that the people of the world are putting up against the deadly corona virus. Those occupying chairs of power in New Delhi must recognise the genuine threat to lives of Kashmiri leadership in view of the global pandemic, jail walls are not enough to stop Covid-19 said Party spokesperson Sheeban Ashai. The party demanded immediate release of AIP Supremo Er Abdul Rashid who continues to be in incarceration since August 5th last year. The charges against any Kashmiri leader are yet to be proven in any case, in the court of law. Hence in view of current situation where entire India itself is trying to tackle with spread of corona virus, it would be in everyone's interest if Kashmiri political prisoners are released at the earliest.
