Srinagar, Feb 22 (KNS): Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP) has expressed concern over the fact that mass rape victims of Kunan Poshpora are continuously denied justice on the institutional level and the culprit army soldiers are rooming free even after 27 years of the shame incident. The party said that had the criminals of Kunan Poshpora been brought to book, the criminal elements would have not gathered courage to raise tri-color in favour of rapists in Katuha. Describing the Kunan Poshpora mass rape incident as a proof of war crimes committed by Indian forces in Jammu Kashmir, JKDFP secretary general, Moulana Mohammad Abdullah Tari asked international bodies to probe it so that the culprits are penalised and justice is done.
The Kunan Poshspora incident occurred on February 23, 1991, when units of Indian occupational forces raped scores of women in the garb of search operation. Moulana Tari said that the Human Rights organizations including Human Rights Watch have reported that the number of raped women could be as high as 100.
Moulana Tari said that the J&K High Court has stayed re-investigation in the incident which speaks volumes about the justice denial mood of the government institutions. Even after 27 years of the inhuman and beastly act in Kunan-Poshpora, the involved army officer or personnel have not been brought to book. This case is deliberately hushed up and the successive state regimes have played a criminal role in this regard as till date they never made any sincere attempt against the culprits.
He said that India has been using rape as a war weapon against the freedom loving Kashmiris and irony is that New Delhi is successfully deceiving international brethren about the facts in Kashmir. It has become possible only because of the criminal role of the pro-India politicians of Kashmir who act as collaborators. Moulana Tari appealed the local Human rights organizations to raise the issue more vibrantly so that rape victims from Kunan Poshpora to Shopian could get justice.
Meanwhile, Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP) has remembered Shaheed pilot Nadeem Khateeb on his 19th martyrdom anniversary.
Shaheed Nadeem Khateeb opted for sacrificing his life for freedom despite being a pilot who could have enjoyed life in countries like US.
Nadeem Khateeb belonged to Chanab valley. His family has the distinction of always supporting the cause of people’s Right to Self Determination because of which it constantly suffered victimization.
After pursuing his education from Tyndale Biscoe School, Srinagar along with some pioneers of the ongoing movement, including Shaheed Ashfaq Majid Wani, Shaheed Nadeem left Kashmir and joined a flying school in Georgia, US. After obtaining his flying license, he was taken as Flying Instructor in the same flying school.
Finally Nadeem Khateeb opted to serve the ongoing freedom struggle and attained martyrdom in 1999 fighting Indian occupational forces in Gool, Gulab Garh area of Udhampur. (KNS)
