Rafi Mir demands separate 200 bedded Maternity Hospital in Anantnag

Srinagar, Jul 22 (KNS): Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chief Spokesperson and former MLA Rafi Ahmad Mir Monday expressed his shock and grief over death of a pregnant lady who lost her life at Maternity and Childcare Hospital in Sher Bagh area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag town.

Urging Governor to address the problems in healthcare system, Mir in a statement issued to KNs said that government has to play a pivotal role in building a robust healthcare system.

He said people living in rural areas travel long distances to access health care and referrals consume a lot of precious time of patients, risking their lives. Mir called for implementing the District Development Board decision taken in year 2017 to establish a separate 200 bedded Maternity Hospital in District Anantnag and paying greater attention to patient health care.

He termed the government’s inadequate public spending, low doctor-patient ratio and inadequate infrastructure as the main problem surrounding healthcare system in District Anantnag. “It is gross injustice with patients that a place which doesn’t qualify to be a PHC operates as a Maternity Hospital catering to the whole district,” he said.
