Power employees protest against privatisation

Srinagar 22 May 2020 : Employees and Workers of PDD held protest demonstration at PDD complex Bemina Srinagar and Press Club Jammu in support of all India call of national trade unions and federations announced, “the protest demonstration was held against the new labor laws announced by the central government.” Umar Bhat Spokesperson J&K Central Non Gazetted Electrical Employees Union (JKCNGEEU).

The implementation of new labour laws is against the thousands of workers who work tirelessly to earn their bread of just two times a day, and are being exploited by the regimes with these flawed policies, this has given rise to the new urban capitalism.

Instead of providing any relief and rehabilitation to millions of labourers, hit by the novel COVID-19 pandemic, the government of India is experimenting with the introduction of new laws and unnecessary changes to exploit the poor labour class only. This is a sheer attempt to loot the basic rights of these workers, who have been living in miserable conditions and poverty as we have seen throughout India.

Parshotam Sharma General Secretary JKCNGEEU, in his statement said, Thousands of daily wagers are engaged with various departments of the state and are working ruthlessly to ensure smooth and effective functioning of the system and its establishments, but these policies and changes in laws are purely intended to further push these labourers and workers to hardships, resulting in suicides as we have seen.

He, further added, The state government has also unbundled the JK Power Development Department into various corporations and now the entire privatization would be both anti-employee and anti-consumer move. The next step would be rise in tariffs and duty on electricity by private companies, who are none less than capitalistic exploiters bothered about their profit only. The consumer services will be badly affected due to handover of state establishments to corporate companies, he said in a statement issued to KNS.

JKCNGEEU has always stood against any move or decision that has been not in favor of the workers and employees but also for the public as well. We are all over protesting against these notorious and draconian laws being implemented to fill the pockets and profits of some corporations, who have already looted the public sphere, he concluded.
